An Eatonton man who was out having a good time with his friends at Lake Sinclair was found dead early Thursday, July 30.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills identified the man as 81-year-old Grady Lawrence of Twin Bridges Road. Sills said Lawrence lived less than a couple of miles from where his body was found.

Lawrence and his friends frequently hang out at the Twin Bridges Campsite; and they had been there all night Wednesday, drinking and doing a little fishing, Sills said. Lawrence had passed out at the campsite during the night, according to what one of the friends told the deputy sheriffs.

One man in the group woke up shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday and got in his boat to go to the Twin Bridges Marina store. As he was boating back to the campsite, he saw Lawrence's body floating in the water approximately 15 feet from the shore, and he called 911.

The sheriff said the call came in around 7 a.m., and his deputies, Putnam County Fire Rescue first responders, and Georgia DNR game wardens went to the scene. Sills said there was no trauma to the body or evidence of foul play, but the death is still under investigation.

Lawrence's body was sent to the crime lab in Atlanta for autopsy.
