According to a report provided by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Ivan Phillip Johnson, 59, of Eatonton was booked on charges of homicide by vehicle and failure to drive within single lane, both misdemeanors, on Sept. 29.
It was on May 24 that Robert Clinton Alliston, 95, of Eatonton was killed as the result of a head-on collision on South Oak Street near Recreation Road. Johnson was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center with serious injuries resulting from this accident, in which he was driving a pick-up truck. The Eatonton Messenger reported in the May 27 edition that Alliston was traveling south and Johnson was traveling north but crossed over the center line. There was another vehicle that reportedly struck the vehicles after the wreck, but there were no other injuries.
The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team investigated the accident, and according to the GSP Post in Madison it is still investigating as of Monday and could not release any new information.
Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said Monday that the GSP turned warrants over to his office and that Johnson turned himself in. The booking report states that Johnson bonded out of jail also on Sept. 29.
