Carrying the casket of former Eatonton Fire Department Assistant Chief David Hugh Thomas on the Department’s classic ‘39 apparatus, Eatonton firefighters stop in front of the fire department to sound the final alarm and pay their respects for Thomas.
The fellow firefighters carried the flag draped coffin from the funeral service and led the procession to the burial site at Pine Grove Cemetery.
In addition to serving many years as assistant for chief, Thomas also was a longtime active servant to the community and country as a National Guard recruiter, Boy Scout Master, Little League Coach, Dept. of Corrections Lieutenant, Uncle Remus Museum board member, and Masonic Lodge and Sons of Confederate Veterans member.
“We are grateful for his service and he will be greatly missed by so many in the community,” EatontonFire Chief Eugene Hubert said.
