The GBI Region 6 (Milledgeville) office executed a search warrant at the Eatonton Police Department in relation to the ongoing criminal Use of Force investigation involving Chief Kent Lawrence. Several items were seized by the GBI from the Eatonton Police Department, according to Nelly Miles, the GBI Public Affairs Director.
"At this time, there is no plan to execute a search warrant at the Eatonton City Hall," Miles said Wednesday when questioned about rumors circulating in Eatonton that the same thing was going to happen at city hall on Wednesday.
Chief Lawrence was arrested Friday, Dec. 11, by agents with the GBI on charges of two counts of Simple Battery and one count of Battery. Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit D.A. Stephen Bradley requested the GBI to conduct an investigation regarding allegations that Lawrence had used excessive force against a 58-year-old woman in custody at the police department.
