Man found guilty of aggravated child molestation, rape

A Putnam County man was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole after being convicted by a jury on an assortment of child molestation and rape charges.

The panel of jurors was out deliberating less than 22 minutes when they returned with their guilty verdict.

Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit Superior Court Chief Judge Brenda H. Trammell sentenced Edward Donovan Hensley, 74, formerly of Inez Drive, Eatonton, to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for rape; and to life imprisonment for each count of child molestation, aggravated child molestation, incest and sodomy.

Jury selection began Monday. Trial began first thing Tuesday morning in Putnam County Superior Court and ended Wednesday afternoon. Assistant District Attorneys Dawn M. Baskin and Savanna Roughen prosecuted the case, and Madison attorneys Bruce Evans and Stephen Morris provided the defense.

There was no forensic evidence, and the entire case primarily centered around testimonies of the victims and defendant.
