The recount for the 2020 United States Presidential election is underway in Putnam County according to Lynn Laseter of the Putnam County Election Board. Laseter said the recount began at 9 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 13 and has to be completed by midnight on Wednesday, Nov. 18.
Amongst the nearly 12,000 ballots to be recounted, 3,303 absentee ballots will be a part of the process. Laseter added that only the votes for the presidential election will be recounted.
"We want to make sure the recount is accurate so we are taking our time to ensure that," Laseter explained. "We have one audit team of two people and a monitoring team of one Republican and one Democrat overseeing the process."
The teams will work on Friday and resume the recount on Monday.
