PCMS Jr. Beta members attend national competition

For the last few months, National Junior Beta members from Putnam County Middle School (PCMS) have been working hard to prepare for competition at the National Jr. Beta Convention.

Local crochet group puts PGH patients in stitches

The Stitches of Love crochet group, from Eatonton First United Methodist Church, delivered six prayer shawls on Monday to Putnam General Hospital (PGH), where they will be given to recovering patients.

St. Mary’s holds future-thinking meeting

St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Foundation Board Chair Becky Smith recently led a meeting with local physicians, community leaders, and representatives from St. Mary’s Health Care System and its parent ministry, Trinity Health, to assess the evolving healthcare needs of the community.

MAGallery hosts Celebrating Freedom exhibition

MAGallery is hosting the Celebrating Freedom exhibition, by abstract artist Nancy Race, through Sept. 16. Celebrating Freedom opens with a catered reception and live music on Friday, Aug. 18 from 6-8 p.m., where guests will have the opportunity to meet Race and mingle with other artists and guests.

Eatonton-Putnam County Library features Alice Walker mini museum

The Eatonton-Putnam County Library now features a mini-museum honoring Alice Tallulah-Kate Walker, the first Black woman to win a Pulitzer for literature. Alice Walker is famous for her novel, The Color Purple, which was made into a critically acclaimed movie and Broadway musical.

Outdoors: Gas station food and summertime eating

Recently, I was running from our shop to the government center in Eatonton and I was hungry. Well, it being past 12:30 and me not having had breakfast that morning I was getting towards the hangry stage of dangerous. Trust me. Big boys like me ain’t fun to be around when we enter that phase.

Keepin’ it Reel: Barbie

Decked out in pink, I recently visited Parkside Theater to watch Barbie. The movie has received mixed reviews online due to its theming and jokes, being both praised for its empowerment of women and condemned for its “representation of men.

Plaza Arts Center teaches kids to be creative

The Plaza Arts Center’s annual Art Camp for Kids took place July 17-21, in Eatonton. “Children at this camp are doing different types of art and get exposed to different art media,” Plaza Arts Center Executive Director Susan Usry said. “There are a lot of activities, and the children are very good.
