Atlanta’s historic Fox Theatre, through its philanthropic arm Fox Gives, has partnered with the Georgia Public Library Service (GPLS) to send the popular Fox in a Box exhibit on a statewide tour of public libraries.
The exhibit will be on display Sept. 22 to Oct. 27 at the Eatonton-Putnam County Library.
Fox in a Box, the historic theater’s interactive educational experience, is designed to teach participants about the rich history of the Fox Theatre and how its significant events intersect with key events in US history.
Since its inception, Fox in a Box has reached more than 68,000 students and educators across 175 schools, and since its first Georgia Public Library Service tour, the program has visited dozens of libraries statewide.
“We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to grow our partnership with Georgia Public Library Service and take Fox in a Box beyond the metro Atlanta area,” Fox Gives Director of Community Partnerships Leigh Burns said. “The interactive exhibit and the film now reach more of Georgia’s 159 counties, helping us increase the awareness and sustainability of historic theaters and cultural centers beyond our own home here at the Fox.”
While hosting the exhibit, the Eatonton- Putnam County Library will offer exclusive classroom tours for students, available by request, to explore the 'Fox in a Box' exhibition. During the lesson, students will explore the Fox’s history through a slideshow, video, and archival images.
Teachers and theater groups are encouraged to schedule in advance to participate in fun theater activities. Additionally, daycare and preschool groups can enjoy scavenger hunts, story times, and coloring sessions, creating an enriching environment for young patrons.
This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Service.
