MAGallery presents ‘Land and Sea Georgia’

Madison Artists Guild Gallery (MAGallery) presents Land and Sea Georgia, an exhibition by renowned metal and jewelry artist Barbara Mann celebrating the interconnectedness of Georgia’s land and coastal environments.

This exhibition is a visual exploration of the state’s ecological diversity and includes a range of work, from wall-mounted pieces to wearable jewelry.

Drawing inspiration from Georgia’s land and coastal environments, Mann’s work references flora and fauna, including pokeweed and pine trees, sea algae, oysters, sea turtles, and microscopic marine life. Using metals, minerals, and gemstones, Mann transforms organic forms into finely crafted contemporary metalwork that bridges art, science, and nature.

Mann has more than 50 years of experience as a metal and jewelry artist and educator. She holds a BFA and MFA from the University of Georgia, where she taught for many years in the Lamar Dodd School of Art and through the Continuing Education Program. Mann also has taught internationally in Italy and Costa Rica and has exhibited widely, with work held in museum collections and featured in books and art publications.

Recently, Mann completed a major body of work supported by Georgia Sea Grant and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) that focused on the marine carbon cycle.

Many of these works are included in Land and Sea Georgia.

MAGallery presents Land and Sea Georgia in support of the Madison Artists Guild’s mission to encourage artistic endeavors within the community. As a retail art gallery, MAGallery hosts rotating exhibitions of established and emerging artists and showcases original work by local and regional artists and authors on an ongoing basis.

The public is invited to meet Mann and enjoy sips and bites plus live music at her opening reception, 6-8 p.m., on Friday, Jan.

30. Land and Sea Georgia is sponsored by Audrone and John Kirschner, and will remain at MAGallery through March 7.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, at 125 W. Jefferson St., Madison. For more information, visit TheMadisonArtistsGuild.org or call 706-342-9360.
