The Artisans Village Guild hosted more than 350 guests last Thursday night for its 9th annual Dual Vision reveal, held for the fourth-straight year at Barrel 118 in downtown Eatonton. Four months earlier, 78 Artisans Village Guild members had selected 139 photos from 15 participating Lake Country Photo Club (LCPC) members.

The Pex Theater may appear as an eyesore at the moment, but the Downtown Development Authority plans to change that as it enters the next phase of renovation: re-stuccoing the facade and bolting on a brand new marquee lit with LED panels.
DDA Chairwoman Teresa Doster shared plans and architectural drawings at the September Eatonton-Putnam Tourism, Arts and Heritage Partnership (EPTAHP) meeting, and said that once the outside of the Pex is complete, the focus will shift to the inside of the building.

An Eatonton woman recently became board chairman of a publicly traded company. Mylle Mangum now heads the board of directors of Express, a specialty clothing retail chain that targets young adults. She has served on the board for four years. “It came as a nice surprise that my fellow board members would have that kind of faith in me, so I take it very seriously and am working hard,” Mangum told The Messenger in a recent telephone interview.

In a world reeling from attacks on American soil, Vicky Morgan got good news from New York last week. Her relatives are safe. “They’re all accounted for,” said Morgan. “God was looking after them, but they lost a lot of friends.” It took more than a week before she heard from her mom’s large family.
50 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 23, 1976
The Eatonton-Putnam County Historical Society has completed plans for its second tour of homes to be held Saturday, Oct. 9, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. in Eatonton.
Thirteen buildings of outstanding architectural significance will be opened. These represent Piedmont Plain, Federal, Greek Revival, Victorian, and Contemporary architecture. The Bledsoe-Greene House, which dates back to 1817, is now headquarters for the historical society and will be tour headquarters. It is located across from the courthouse on Sumter Street.
75 YEARS AGO, SEPT. 27, 1951
Monday, October 1st, is the day. The Putnam County Fair will officially open. Fair directors said the interest in this year’s event is keen, and they anticipate a successful event. There will be lots of exhibits of every kind with a good, clean midway with many attractions. “There will be plenty of fun for everybody,” declared Mayor W.D. Candler.

Official information has been received by Mr. F.A.
Walker, game warden for Putnam County, with request that such information be passed on to hunters and trappers in the county, from the offices of Peter S.
Twitty, state game warden, that steps will be taken by the state fish and game department to bring about vigorous prosecution of all persons hunting and trapping who fail to provide themselves with hunters or trappers licenses as required by the state game law.
