The 2025 Gatewood Homecoming senior girls’ were celebrated at halftime of the Gators’ 48-16 win over Augusta Prep at Sammons Field. Last year’s Homecoming Queen, Sarah Kate Mansfield was on hand to pass the crown to 2025 Gatewood Homecoming Queen Presley Elizabeth Moss.

Even with much discussion over all that would need to be done to renovate and rebuild on the current Putnam County Elementary School site on Washington Street, the Putnam County Charter School System Board of Education opted to build a brand-new elementary school on land adjacent to Putnam County Middle School. At the Board of Education’s meeting on Sept.
20, the motion for a new school passed unanimously.

A landmark long-used by Lake Sinclair boaters and road-travelers in the southern end of Putnam County will be gone next week. Georgia Power’s Plant Branch smokestack will be removed by controlled demolition Saturday, Oct. 8, according to Georgia Power spokesman John Kraft. The demolition will take place between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., weather and safety conditions permitting.

Georgia Power has canceled its planned Oct. 2 three-foot drawdown on Lake Oconee because the recent lack of rainfall means there may not be sufficient water to refill the lake to full pool. The level on Lake Oconee dropped in recent weeks due to this lack of rainfall and the operational requirements of both Lake Oconee and Lake Sinclair.

Today is open house at the Eatonton Early Childhood Development Center. The center is located on the corner of New and Wall streets, across from Butler-Baker school. The public is invited and urged to attend.

Putnam’s flower growers and arrangers will parade their best Tuesday, Oct. 16, when the Uncle Remus Women’s Club presents the third annual flower show at the old Happ Building. A wider group of classifications than previously is being offered, Mrs. E.F. Griffith, chairman of the committee in charge of arrangements, has announced.

Patrons of the Eatonton branch of Southern Bell Telephone & Telegraph Company will regret to learn that Miss Ruby Sanders, for five years night operator at the local exchange, will leave Eatonton this week for Madison, where she has accepted employment as night operator.
