Baldwin and Putnam county authorities are actively searching the bottom of Lake Sinclair for a man who went fishing around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday but didn't return home.
The angler, whose identity is currently being withheld, is believed by authorities to be a 76-year-old Baldwin County man, but his boat was found tied to the Putnam County side of the railroad trestle at Haslam's Marina, according to Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills.
The Baldwin County Public Safety Dive Team, Putnam County Fire Rescue, Baldwin County Fire Rescue, Putnam County Sheriff's Office, Baldwin County Sheriff's Office, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources are using sonar and searching the channel around the trestle.
Recreational boaters and individuals should avoid that area of the lake until further notice.
The Eatonton Messenger will add updates as they become available.
