Hurricane Helene causes damage in the area

Tragically, at least 25 people in Georgia lost their lives to Hurricane Helene. At the same time, the far south and eastern side of the state suffered billions of dollars in total damage, and as of Tuesday morning, approximately 350,000 people remained without electric power statewide.

Haze, odor from Conyers BioLab fire hits Putnam

A cloudy haze settled over Eatonton and Putnam County on Monday and Tuesday, and many people called the 911 center complaining of the strong chlorine odor, according to Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills, who also serves as the county’s Emergency Management Agency director.

12-year-old arrested for school threats

Another Putnam County student has been arrested for making threats at school, Eatonton Police Chief Howell Cardwell said.On Thursday, Sept. 19, a Putnam County Middle School teacher overheard the threat and immediately reported it to Principal Monica Macklin, who called Cardwell.

Man injured in shooting at homecoming celebration

A 40-year-old Madison man was wounded during a homecoming celebration at Butler-Baker School in Eatonton early Saturday.Eatonton Police Chief Howell Cardwell said the man was shot in one of two shootings that happened around 1 a.m. The shooter turned himself in to authorities Tuesday at 5 p.m.
