Dear Editor,
For those who saw the show “Honk!” at The Plaza, you know how great it was. The actors and actresses were fabulous, and the set was well done. Those kids gave it their all and should be very proud.
Unfortunately, if you didn’t see it I can guess the reason was the price of the tickets. They were advertised as “$15-20-25” per ticket, but I only saw the $25 option for sale online.
Which, for one person, isn’t awful, but if you want to bring your family of four, that’s $100 — and that’s A LOT nowadays.
There were no senior or children discounts in pricing. I appreciate the fact that The Plaza needed to make a profit, but you might have had more profit to work with if you had “family packages” or a kids' day or something to make it more affordable.
Why not tie in with the library and promote the story behind the play, The Ugly Duckling? There were two separate library systems that could have had tie-ins and promotions to attract more people from Putnam, Baldwin, Greene, Morgan, and Jasper counties to attend the show.
The day I attended, there were residents from a nursing home present. Did anyone approach the other nursing homes in the area to see if they could help “pack the house?” It was a family-themed play that appealed to all ages, yet on the day I went, the theater was far from packed. And it’s a shame.
Those kids deserved a bigger audience and a lot of people missed a good show, a lot of talent, and heart, just because they didn’t know about or possibly couldn’t afford to see it. The Plaza is a nice, little theater that routinely puts on a good show. They just don’t seem to be very concerned if anyone else sees it.
