Letter to the Editor: Wreaths Across America

Dear Editor,

I am writing to urge our community to show its robust support and volunteer for a crucial annual event: Wreaths Across America, this year on Saturday, Dec. 13.

The mission of Wreaths Across America is both simple and profound: to honor the fallen, those who serve, and the next generation, the value of freedom. Every December, communities across the nation, including our own, lay remembrance wreaths on the graves of local veterans in county cemeteries.

Having participated in Putnam County last year, my husband and I saw firsthand the pressing need for more helping hands. This vital act of remembrance deserves our whole community’s commitment. We have countless veterans resting in our care who deserve to have their names spoken aloud, their service recognized, and their memory cherished.

I call upon our local leadership, community organizations, and every resident to use their platforms — through social media, official communications, and personal networks — to actively inspire and encourage citizens to volunteer. Even one hour on Dec. 13th makes a truly monumental difference in ensuring that every veteran is honored.

Residents can find information and sign up to volunteer at Wreaths Across America's website, wreathsacrossamerica.org.

By lending your voice and your time to this cause, you will help honor the sacrifice of every single veteran resting in this county. Let’s make sure no hero is forgotten.

Sincerely, Jennifer Ray, Putnam County
