Benjamin-Smith: Wandering down memory lane

Another busy month, and I absolutely loved each and every fast-moving minute.

The days I work (Thursday and Friday) at the Uncle Remus Museum have been busy and great. I meet people there who are visiting Eatonton from all over the world. And remember, I am Southern, I love to eat and talk, and talk and eat some more. So, I promote our beautiful city and county at all times.

But I listen, also. Two people who took an individual tour relayed to me how friendly and beautiful the surroundings are around here.

Another big, big event came and went on Nov. 19: the bake sale at Putnam General Hospital. It was sponsored by the Putnam General Hospital’s Auxiliary, with cakes, pies, and cookies galore. And I am still happy over the great pecan pie. I ate three-fourths of it (just hope my doctor is not reading this article).

Speaking of events, Rev. Simone Jones of Texas AME Church was our guest speaker at the Women’s Day program. She is a great speaker, and I must say she is also a cousin of mine. I wish I had her talent, but apparently, I was talking when God was distributing talent, and I didn’t get any.

Don’t forget we have an upcoming event: Mothers Against Crime is sponsoring the annual Christmas Party for the community’s children on Dec. 6, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Putnam County Recreation Department. Each child will receive a free gift. Everyone is invited, and all are welcome.

Our club has been so blessed with so many supporters over the past 33 years. Please keep us in your prayers.

Thought for today: Always give thanks to the Lord in the manner you receive God’s blessings.
