Letter to the Editor: Quarry complaints continue

Dear Editor,

Last week’s full-page paid advertisement from Putnam Stone in The Eatonton Messenger details where they locate 700 active mines, including 150 rock quarries, in Georgia.

When you look at the map, it’s incredible to see how many mines already exist.

The question [Putnam County] citizens, zoning officials, and county administrators should ask is, why do we need another one? Does Putnam Stone really think the destruction and pollution that any mine brings will help bring the American Dream to Lake Country, as they claim?

If rezoning is allowed, operating a granite mine will be a long-regretted nightmare for Putnam County. The only economic engine to be started is Putnam Stone's.

Sincerely, Janet Kelhoffer, Eatonton
