Wandering and wondering

I am wandering as usual and also wondering. The weather at this time is also wandering, but I love the South and the various activities.

We are a busy, busy county and city. I would not change it for anything.

We have so many attributes. They are well planned and unique, and we have so many activities. They are well planned, and especially our visitors enjoy them.

I want to take a moment and brag on Putnam General Hospital. First, the employees are so helpful and friendly, and I must say, very, very knowledgeable. Also, don’t forget about free PSA screening for the entire month of September. No physician needles, no cost. Just walk in Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please remind the men in your lives to take advantage of this important screening.

Also, don’t forget to save the date for the celebration and dedication on Wednesday, Sept. 30th at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Community Garden. The Hiram Little Tuskegee Airmen Monument will be unveiled that day. Hiram Little was from Putnam County, and we want to celebrate his commitment to the county and his country during World War II. This is a story that needs to be told to all generations.

I’m still on my soapbox.

Please watch carefully for the young people out there. They’re enjoying themselves, but all of these young people riding on scooters are not always being careful, and it really worries me.

On another note, the Uncle Remus Museum is open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the days I’m there. We receive guests from all over the United States and even outside. They really enjoy themselves and look forward to hearing about our beautiful city and county.

This is the time when I tilt my promoter’s hat and tell them that visitors do not have to leave the city or county for lunch because we have many great eating places downtown and nearby. So take advantage, and they always do.

My daughter is remodeling our house and I have some children’s books I would like to donate. Let me know. If you come to get them you can see the rest of my flowers, too.

Finally, don’t forget the annual candlelight vigil this Friday at 6:30 p.m., right before the football game at Gatewood School, sponsored by Putnam Domestic Violence Group, Mothers Against Crime, and the Circle of Love.

That’s about all I have to say for the moment.

Remember my words of courage: There is only one thing evil cannot stand, and that is forgiveness.
