Dear editor:
I am so excited. I remember not to be nosy but concerned instead. This has been a beautiful week and our beautiful little town has been so full of activities.
My week began with visitors to the Uncle Remus Museum on Monday from Athens and Alabama. I reminded everyone of the great eating places and shops. I didn’t forget to remind them to come back for The Dairy Festival.
On Thursday, Gatewood Honors Night was held at First United Methodist Church (The Great Hall), and it was absolutely great. Mothers Against Crime presented two scholarships that evening. The honorees were: Lily McElhenney and Mackenzie Jackson. We were so blessed to be able to present a scholarship of $500 each for the Vernice Jordan Nacholls Scholarship.
On Saturday, the town was filled up with people from different places to enjoy the entertainment of the City Center Stage to enjoy the celebration of the legacy of Peg Leg Howell. People, vendors and music were all over. Thank you Main Street. It was a huge success.
Oops, I don’t want to overlook the week before with the Open House at The Livery Stable. It was also a huge success. Eatonton and Putnam County are so very, very busy with: Old School History Museum, Georgia Writers Museum and the ribbon cutting at the Best Kept Secret in Putnam County (Oconee Springs Park). Don’t want to leave out the Miss and Jr. Miss Pageant at The Plaza. Congratulations young ladies. Eatonton and Putnam County are booming with activities. Take a moment and enjoy.
Again, Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers and remember: The Mothers Against Crime Annual Banquet at The Plaza on May 21 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10. We will be celebrating 30 years all because of people like you.
Thought for today: The problem with climbing the ladder of success is that we keep looking up, envying those above us, when we should be reaching down to help those below.
