Back to writing after brief break

Dear editor:

I apologize to everybody. I was so busy last week I didn’t have time to write my letter to the editor. Are you wondering what I was doing?

OK. I will tell you. If I didn’t clean my living room, the Board of Health would close 403 Willie Bailey St. down. Really. Mothers Against Crime has been very busy conducting yard sales (free give-a-ways). And you guessed it, everything is stored at my house. Now give me a moment to play catch-up.

First, we sponsored our annual Gospel Singing in the first week of July. It was absolutely great. We only had four groups because of deaths in the family of one of our groups. Putnam County Gospel Ensemble, Robert Johnson, The Gospelettes and The Sons United closed it out with a bang. I would love to see more people attending, but we are thankful for the ones there.

Next we have mailed our scholarship checks to the schools for our students. Good luck young people. You are our future leaders, and we are so proud of you. Remember, Ke’Asia Waller, Keledrin Barron, Courtney Davis, MacKenzie Jackson and Lily Kate McElehenney, the torch is in your hands.

Hats off to the Putnam County Board of Education. The inspiration classes were a huge success, and the young people enjoyed them. I know because remembe I still get a little bit nosy, and I talk to young people for feedback.

I do have a few wishes:

(1) I would like to see more young people in church on Sundays. Remember you will probably be one of those leaders one day. Get the basics now.

(2) I would love to see the weeds removed from the cracks in the pavement starting at Maxway.

(3) Mothers Against Crime would like to have a space for our meetings (in-town) if possible.

Again, I repeat my back yard is a jungle. Everything is purple and very, very tall. I love it still.

Remember, don’t hesitate to pray, keep watch over your elderly neighbor and re-instill the village concept

Hats off to our law enforcement, too. You are doing a great job. Take a moment and pull over and talk to the young people. Let them know you need their help, too.

Thought for today: Grace, forgiveness and love are essential ingredients for unity among believers.

God Bless – Georgia Benjamin-Smith
