Be proud of people visiting us

Dear Editor, I am back and nosy as ever. Oops! I forgot I am not supposed to use that word. I am concerned. Right?

Anyway, I have experienced a week of sadness and gladness.

First, I think of the people in Florida and other coastal areas enduring the hardships of the storm.

We are truly blessed and should pray for others, and ourselves, daily. I met seven families this past weekend that had traveled to various parts of Georgia to escape the storm. The stories they told were eye-opening and the people were so very brave and appreciative of us.

Eatonton-Putnam, be proud of the people visiting us. They are overwhelmed by the beauty, history and the friendliness of our area. Quietly I put on my promoter’s hat and remind them we would be delighted to have them as residents and neighbors. I hope it works because I enjoyed each and every moment.

Here, we are experiencing some early fall weather.

Don’t laugh, two days last week I flipped from air conditioning to heat and it felt so good in the early morning. Now, I am enjoying the beautiful blue sky and the slight chill in the morning. I promise I won’t complain.

The Jungle, my yard, is still overgrown, but I love it!

My banana trees do not have bananas and my other plants did not bloom, but I can look forward to next year and hope the birds in my neighborhood don’t get into any more trouble.

I start my morning off by saying, “Thank you,” when I wake up, followed by feeding the neighborhood cats and yelling “Good Morning!” to my neighbors very loud. Aren’t you glad you’re not my neighbor? Well, watch it, I’m still recruiting. You could be next!

Also, take a moment and look at all the scarecrows around downtown. They are absolutely beautiful.

There is talent here in Eatonton!

I must go now. I have a new dog visiting and … oops, here comes another one!

Thought for today: Think of our young people, talk with them, pray for them (our future leaders).

Remember, the warmth of our child’s presence brings joy to our hearts, sunlight to our souls, and pleasure to all of life.

God Bless, Georgia Benjamin-Smith
