Dear Editor,
This is in response to the full-page notice regarding the Big Mess on Old Phoenix Road on March 9 (in The Eatonton Messenger and Lake Oconee News).
I agree that the photos in the paper are a snapshot of the temporary process to install multiple fiberoptic cables on easements permitted by the Putnam County government for such use. The photos show such equipment on permitted easements and the unsightly damage of the installation aggravated by rain on those easements. It is a mess . . .
Let’s understand that a utility easement is a legal arrangement whereby utility companies can access private land if the work to be undertaken is deemed to be for the benefit of the public. Certainly, the public in Tri-County’s service area will benefit from fiberoptic. That easement is being temporarily exercised by Tri-Co Go and its contractors.
While we might be inconvenienced by a utility easement from time to time, it’s actually an important part of the development and sustainability of communities. I am certain that when the installation of the fiberoptic is completed on Old Phoenix Road, Tri-Co Go will restore the unsightly damage on the easements.
Most people I know that have fiberoptic or are waiting for it to be installed in their home are thrilled with it compared to the present satellite and/or cable options. And I’ll bet if you decide to go fiber optic, you’ll be so glad that you put up with the temporary inconvenience and unsightliness to get rid of your present service to have this one.
