Madison Artists Guild Gallery (MAGallery) will introduce Cuban native Tomas Gonzalez to the local arts community July 14, with a reception to celebrate the opening of his exhibition, This & That Observations.
A self-described “visual talker,” Gonzalez will be at MAGallery from 6-8 p.m., for a catered reception that is free and open to the public. Please join us and enjoy sips and bites from Harvest & Honey and live music by Nolan Bennett.
The exhibition will remain at MAGallery through Aug. 12, and all works will be available for purchase.
It would be a challenge to find a medium or a style in which Gonzalez has not worked and does not excel. Oil, watercolor, gouache (opaque watercolor), color pencil, acrylic, airbrush, ink, pastel, and pastel pencil abound in this exhibition of styles ranging from realism to impressionism to fantasy.
Gonzalez came to the United States when he was 10 years old and his career now spans corporate communications and creative direction, package design and advertising, and picture book illustrations.
He studied art at the Atlanta School of Art (now Savannah College of Art and Design). After working at the Coca-Cola Company for 20 years, he held several creative positions with other global brands. Additionally, Tom has illustrated numerous acclaimed picture books including 14 Cows for America, Seven and a Half Tons of Steel, Life in a Frozen World, and Gandhi: A March to the Sea.
MAGallery is a retail art gallery showcasing the original work of 20 artists and eight authors, in addition to rotating special exhibitions like This & That Observations.
Located at 125 W. Jefferson St. in Madison, gallery hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information visit online at TheMadisonArtistsGuild.org or call 706-342-9360.
