Letter to the Editor: Prefers perfect score

Dear Editor,

Not a nine, but a 10! That is what I would give the Seussical production recently performed at the Plaza.

As a founder of PAPA, the Plaza Alliance of the Performing Arts, and a long-time producer of PAPA plays, I saw this production as without fault, especially considering it was performed by young people. That’s a 10 in my book, an opinion formed after helping to produce dozens of different productions over a long period of time.

The reviewer never gives a reason why it was seen as only a 9. While a 9 is great, a 10 is deserved, and that is the point of this letter. The staging, set, costumes, acting, dancing, singing, and directing were great, especially considering that it was performed by our youth with one exception. It’s fine to have a different opinion, but I just want to state that many of us saw it as even better than reported.

Thank you to those who put so much time into this wonderful presentation, one that illustrates that multitudes of our youth are into healthy, wholesome activities and who are being given opportunities to hone their skills. Thanks to The Arts Barn, The Plaza, and to all these youth for your wonderful production. We loved it and are so proud of you. Thank you to The Messenger reporter for the coverage, as that is always appreciated.

To the public I would say, don’t miss next summer’s production. It will be worth your time and money. I write this with confidence. Supporting the arts in our community is a really productive and good thing to do.

Dottie McClain, Chairperson, Plaza Alliance for the Performing Arts
