As I read The Eatonton Messenger each week there are letters to the editor and articles concerning STRs (short-term rentals) in Putnam County. The bulk of what I read only covers our current problems and concerns.
How and when were STRs first allowed? Who were the members of the board of Commissioners? And the chairman? They must have thought it was OK to allow STRs in Putnam County.
The current board of commissioners is going to, hopefully, vote soon to at least correct some of the errors created by commissioners in that era. I believe Steve Hersey was the chairman, Alan Foster represented the 3rd District and Trevor Addison represented the 4th District at that time.
By the way, it amazes me how many residents think Chairman Bill Sharp created this problem. The commissioners representing the 1st, 2nd, and 4th districts will be the ones voting on this important issue.

If you have never served on a state or county board, I suggest you volunteer to do that and find out what a challenge it truly is to serve.
