Dear Editor,
Another hot, hot week has passed, but we will survive. We really are survivors. Take a moment and reflect back on history. We have all been through some downfalls, et cetera, but we made it.
By the way, did you know I have a couple of pet peeves? Well, I do. Number one is people not using signal lights. It really elevates my blood pressure, but I will not let it dominate my days.
My good mother used to always say, “Pull your shoulders up, stand tall, and don’t ever bow your head, except to pray.” She was a brave woman who lived to be 110 years old. She had a third-grade education, but a PhD in common sense. I hope I inherited some of it.
At the Uncle Remus Museum, we receive visitors from all parts of the world. On Thursday and Friday last week, visitors were really amazed by our town and county. They really should not have shown it because I pulled my promoter’s hat way down on the side and paraded around.
They were fascinated with our courthouse, the restaurants, and storefronts, so Eatonton and Putnam County, stand tall! You are definitely making an impression.
I read the paper last week and saw all the pictures of new teachers for Putnam County schools. Congratulations to all the schools. You are the base for our future leaders.
And just being nosy again, I went by the Eatonton-Putnam County Public Library and was so taken aback by the beautiful landscaping there I just had to find out who was responsible. Turns out it’s members of the Town & Country Garden Club and the Master Gardeners. They got together to design a garden that’s absolutely full of God’s natural beauty. You have to go see it!
I am ready for Labor Day but please remember to be careful out there and keep the world in your prayers.
We have so much activity but united we will stand true and continue to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Keep all young people in mind and in your heart.
Thought for today: Affection is the most satisfying reward a child can receive. It costs nothing, is readily available, and provides great encouragement.
