Thrilled about ‘Thrifting’
Hello Ian,
Thank you for making “T” for Thrifting! I loved the article and know it raised awareness about four great stores in Putnam County.
I recently watched an episode of “Amazing Race” and the group was in Sweden where they recycle almost everything! A roadblock (in race-speak) was to sort trash at a recycling center in Stockholm where viewers had a first-hand look at the specificity of sorting trash into many different containers. From there, most items were reprocessed into something else.
I would love to see that in the United States, where we not only have tremendous excess but once finished with something, our first inclination is to toss it in the trash. We could learn from Sweden.
Let me add that I have thoroughly enjoyed the A-to-Z series and have learned a great deal about Putnam County. I think my second favorite was the “E” for eggs, where I learned Rose Acre Farms ships out a million eggs a day! I was sharing that statistic with my husband and once I stated it, I thought, “That can’t be right, I must have misread it.” I reread the article and sure enough, one million was correct! I’m still in awe of that fact.
I realize it has been a labor of love to create and write this series but must say that I would love to see it continue for 2024. I’m also trying to figure out how you are going to handle U through Z.
Again, thank you for promoting secondhand through an informative and inclusive article.
