Benjamin Smith: Old-fashioned church revivals

I absolutely look forward to attending old-fashioned church revivals every year.

I like to attend various churches to hear the soul-stirring messages. Last week, I attended Tuesday to Thursday night at St. John AME Church, my church. The messages are still embedded in my mind and in my soul.

On Monday night, minister Pam Young of Clements Chapel spoke on “A Sure Thing,” coming from Philippians 4:19; Tuesday night, Reverend Willie C. Jones Sr., of Henderson Grove Church, spoke on Psalms 32:11, God’s protection and cover Plan. And the final night of revival was Reverend Burney with a message from Johns Chapter 5: “Your wait is over.”

I have been revived and feel ready for whatever comes next.

Now to dwell on springtime, I love Spring! Even with the interruption of high levels of pollen. I love seeing the flowers making their debut, the birds flying over, and spending every cent on more plants. And every day brings a new face for me to wave to, or talk with, and look forward to a new tomorrow.

I really must tell you how much I love meeting new people. Last week at the Uncle Remus Museum, I met visitors from New Hampshire, Oregon, California, and Texas. So I pulled out my soapbox and Eatonton- Putnam County promoter hat to the highest. We deserve it and I don’t mind telling all the people about it. I also try very hard to recruit them.

But I must run. I have to go and work in my yard on Willie Bailey Street before it becomes a jungle. I am singing right now. And it reminds me that music quickens us to the finest enjoyment of time.

God Bless, Georgia Benjamin-Smith
