Dear Editor,
“We do not live in a world he is talking about.”
That was TV commentator/comedian Bill Maher’s take on our current president’s commencement speech at Morehouse College, an HBCU in Atlanta with high accreditations.
What do you think the students/graduates were thinking when they heard Joe Biden state: “What is democracy if a Black man is getting shot in the street? What is democracy if you have to be ten times better than anyone else to get a fair shot? And most of all, what does it mean to be a Black man who loves his country, even if his country doesn’t love him back in equal measures?”
Talk about scare tactics and the politicization of a great moment in these graduates’ and their parents’ lives! This is from the same man who came to Atlanta a few years back and talked about Georgia voting regulations as “Jim Crow 2.0” and “Jim Crow on steroids.” And what was it about? Whether water was available at the polling houses. It cost our great state an MLB All-Star game. How interesting the following election was the largest ever in Georgia, with 97% of the people pleased with their experience.
Why does Biden keep stirring the pot? Who was he talking about or maybe to whom? These kids attended this private school for about $50k per year (including on-campus room and board – Ed.) and are the cream of the crop.
This is the same man who once said, “You’re not Black if you don’t vote for me.” That just might not be true, because the truth is, Black citizens want and deserve the same as all of us: affordable living, a good income, excellent education, and the advantages this country has to offer for all. We’re all pulling that oar and want to be pulling it for others.
It is time for Joe Biden to realize race issues are off the table and progress for all problems is what’s on the table! It sounded to me like the real racist might be our current president.
