Dear Editor,
I was heartened to see the picture of St. Mary’s Peace Pole in the July 11 edition of The Messenger.
In an effort to promote peace on Earth, the first Peace Pole was constructed in Japan in 1983. There are now more than 200,000 Peace Poles in over 200 countries around the world.
I’m proud to note that Greene County has two of them, at St. Mary’s and at the Pete Nance Girls and Boys Club.
Putnam County’s Peace Pole graces the grounds of Butterflies and Blooms in the Briar Patch. All bear the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth,” uniting peace lovers all across the Lake Country in hopes of inspiring more.
Peace to all, SusanLarson, Eatonton
