Carson Beck tied a program record by throwing five touchdown passes in a 48-3 victory at home on Saturday over Tennessee Tech.
It was a career game for Beck as he became the eighth Bulldog quarterback to pass for five scores in a game.
Beck completed 18 of 25 passes for 247 yards and five touchdowns, each to a different receiver in the lopsided win. The fifth-year signal caller completed passes to 11 teammates against Tennessee Tech.
“Yes, absolutely, it feels good,” Beck said after the game. “We have so much talent in the wide receiver room. We also even look at our tight end room as well. Honestly, all across the offense. Those guys had a great day. They were getting open. Always a good day when you throw five touchdowns to five different guys.”
Beck and Georgia’s offense started fast, racing to a 24-0 lead at halftime. Beck’s first touchdown pass came on the first play from scrimmage, as he tossed 22 yards to Dillon Bell in the corner of the end zone for six.
The Bulldogs regained possession shortly after, and Beck led the offense down the field to score again. After a short rush by Trevor Etienne, Beck completed seven passes in a row, the final to Colbie Young for a score.
Dominic Lovett, Arian Smith, and Lawson Luckie also caught touchdown passes from Beck. Smith was Beck’s favorite receiver against Tennessee Tech, catching four passes for 74 yards and a score.
At one point, Beck had completed the first 11 passes of the game for 116 yards and two touchdowns. He was pulled midway through the third quarter with the Bulldogs up 38-0 and replaced with backup Gunner Stockton.
Beck was impressed with his group of pass catchers and said they’re reliable.
“Yeah, I think it makes my job easy,” he said. “Not that being a quarterback is easy by any means, but as long as I keep my mental processing right and I’m in the right place with the ball, we can count on guys to be open and be in the right spot at the right time. So having that talent definitely makes my job a little bit easier.”
Beck still thinks the Georgia offense can improve heading into this Saturday’s matchup at Kentucky.
“We’re about to go eight games straight of SEC play. It’s going to be a gauntlet, but I think we’re going to be prepared for that,” Beck said. “We’re going to be ready for that and excited for that.
“Obviously, we’ll watch the film of this game, but we need to improve on that and then move on to Kentucky next week.”
