Robertson finds college ‘home’ at Clayton State

Putnam County football senior Jamarion Robertson has found his college home.

Robertson recently committed to Clayton State. He will play quarterback and defensive back at the next level.

Robertson is happy to have the recruiting process over, and he called Clayton State “home.”

“I chose Clayton State University because they were one of the schools that believed in me,” Robertson said. “The environment was great while I was on campus; it just felt like home to me. The coaches are the real deal. They mean business, and that’s what I want to see in my coaches. They’re big on grades and discipline, so my grades are great, and I’m a very disciplined player on and off the field. Clayton State is my home. I’m committed to the program and ready to show coaches what kind of player they’re getting.”

In the last few months, Robertson became close with Clayton State passing-game coordinator Darvon Ingram, a Milledgeville native. Ingram is part of the reason why the 6-foot-3, 180-pound athlete chose the Lakers.

“My relationship with Coach Ingram is great,” Robertson said. “I’m still trying to build a great bond with him.”

Robertson, nicknamed ‘J-Rob,’ started at quarterback and played safety for the War Eagles under Joel Harvin during the past two seasons. Harvin is happy for Robertson and said he deserves a shot at the next level.

“I am glad that J-Rob gets an opportunity to play the game he loves,” Harvin said. “He will be able to pursue the major that he wants at a school that he has chosen, and I am proud of him for that. He has been an outstanding young man for this high school, and we hope to see him continue that when he goes to college.”

Robertson also played his first two years of prep football for Shaun Pope, who retired from Putnam County in 2022.

Pope had nothing but great things to say about Robertson.

“He’s a very high character young man who always put the team first,” Pope said of Robertson in January. “He developed into a great role model and genuinely loved his teammates. With those character traits, there’s no doubt in my mind that he’ll be a successful man, husband, and father.”

Robertson thanked his coaches and Putnam County teammate Rashod Daniel, who recently committed to Cumberland University, for helping him commit to Clayton State. He’s happy to finally of found his college home.

“I couldn’t have done it with them,” Robertson said.
