Gators fall to Tatnall, sweep CFCA

Gatewood sandwiched a loss at home to Tattnall Square Academy (TSA) between a pair of wins last week over region foe Central Fellowship Christian Academy (CFCA).

Gatewood finished the week with a 10-5 overall record and 4-0 mark in region play. The second game against CFCA was exciting. The Gators trailed 4-2 through two innings, but their bats caught fire in the third as their offense exploded to score seven runs to take a 9-4 lead into the fourth.

Gatewood’s pitching threw two straight scoreless innings before the offense tacked on one more run in the fifth to extend its lead to 10-4.

The Crusaders didn’t go down easy, though. They combined to score six runs in the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game at 10. However, the Gators won the game on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the inning, ending the game.

Lawson Moore earned the walk and Walker Roberts scored the winning run, giving Gatewood its 10th win of the season. The Gators totaled 11 hits in the game, but a season-high six errors. Their pitchers allowed six hits, six earned runs, and walked eight.

They also hit four batters in the close win. This week, Gatewood will play region rival Brentwood in a home-and-home series.
