Back to school, new businesses and good eats
Dear editor: I am so happy, the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter. We need to be encouraged and not give up. We also need to stand up and definitely become more involved and don’t forget the village concept. And Eatonton, Putnam County is a village, a real village.
School just started and you see a slew of school buses going everywhere. Several places gave out school supplies recently, including St. John AME Church last Saturday to a large number of students.
Oh, and I want to tell you that Mothers Against Crime (MAC) also held a Back-to-School party at Montgomery Homes on July 30th. MAC partnered with Eatonton Housing Authority for this annual event and as always, a large number of young people and parents were present. Everyone received plenty of food and drinks, school supplies and other giveaways.
We also need to thank the Eatonton Fire Department, Eatonton Police Department and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department for sending representatives, and Kailee Reid for a very informative presentation, too.
And remember, I am barely above being nosy. Did you know we have a new dentist in town? Yes, we have Dr.
Willie Oliver. And also Pretty Girls Fitness with Reisha Daniels (I’m sure I misspelled her name). I am so proud of them! It proves if you work hard, you can be whatever you want to be.
Now I’m getting hungry. Remember, this beautiful little town can sure serve you some good, down-home food. There are so many choices to be proud of.
I have to report on the deli at Ingles because they have turned me into an addict. And the service is great!
On Wednesdays I slow poke out to Putnam General Hospital for lunch and some of the best fried chicken, collard greens and everything else. And I am on my way now to Tastee Chick now for a catfish sandwich.
Yummy! Don’t forget Ms Stella’s, too.
But don’t just take my word for it, try these places out. Sorry, I didn’t mean to be so long, but I am just so excited about our little town!
Thought for today: The faithful will abound with blessings.
God bless,
Georgia Benjamin-Smith
