Benjamin-Smith: Wandering and wondering

Wandering and wondering, that’s exactly what I’m doing. They call it March Madness, and I can really agree wholeheartedly with the description, but listen carefully. I have enjoyed every day.

Let me start off with church services at various churches around town. March 15th at my church, St. John AME, we celebrated our 159th anniversary. What a blessing.

On March 22nd, we visited Zion Covenant and celebrated Pastor Fred Lowe’s anniversary. It was another great day with a huge crowd, good food, and a great message. Two days later, we visited Hunts Chapel AME for Family and Friends Day. Plenty of families and an abundant amount of friends, too.

Pastor Alexander Banks, Reverend Wayne Griffin Sr., and Pastor Michael Brown delivered soul-touching messages at the church. I am still mesmerized.

On March 18th, I entertained approximately 30 to 40 guests at the Uncle Remus Museum. It was part of an annual tour, and they came from about 15 different states to see us. It was absolutely great.

I really tilted my promoter’s hat way over to the side, pulled my shoulders back, and told some Uncle Remus stories. And don’t forget I did a large amount of promoting. Eatonton and Putnam County were the highlights. Why not? We are great.

Now, on to the flowers. I am planting, planting everywhere. I love flowers, any kind. I also planted some collards in my flower bed. Quit laughing. When I cook a pot of collards with a couple of pigtails and a side order of my famous barbecue, you will know I am not kidding.

But I must run now. Remember, the Dairy Festival is not that far away, and I absolutely love that day. I will probably need to get another promoter’s hat fast because this one is wearing thin, very thin.

My wish and thought for the day is to take a moment to speak to our young people, whether you know them or not, and to remember that they are our future leaders.

Also, remember, hope is the expectation of good things to come.
