Without too much fanfare, the Board of Commissioners started the 2025 County Budget review cycle on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Following this review cycle, the proposed 2025 budget and millage rate will be advertised on July 25, which will determine the amount of county property taxes we will pay this year.
One budget item has already been set in concrete: the commissioners’ compensation. You will notice the commissioners haven’t talked much in public about their compensation lately. That’s because their compensation will have increased by more than 50 percent in the last three years (2023, 2024, and now 2025).
Let me say that again: a 50% increase in compensation in the last three years. What do you think? I have my own opinion, but I leave it to you to decide if their present performance merits such an increase!
