Letter to the Editor: In favor of SPLOST 10

Dear Editor,

There has been considerable discussion and some controversy about subject items. As a tax-paying, longtime resident of Putnam County, I would like to publicly comment on the matter.

If there has ever been a good tax, SPLOST is certainly one of them. Many county/city needs have been provided with this tax revenue rather than using property taxes.

I do not think we can afford to vote “no” on continuing this tax come Nov. 5. As an example, funding a new/improved jail is necessary and must happen, whether funded with SPLOST 10 or our property taxes.

SPLOST 10 is not a new or additional tax.

I believe the road bond issue will prove to be a wise business decision, also. Larger road paving projects with lower contractor bids per mile will save money. Road improvements will come quicker at a lower overall cost, plus the county can get ahead of the repaving backlog enabling improved planning.

There comes a time when the debate should cease, and we have confidence in our local officials/staff to do what is best for all of us. This is one of those times.

Vote “Yes” for SPLOST 10!
