Dear Editor,
Another wonderful week has passed, and we are here to reminisce. There is some sadness and some joy, but we have learned from our fore-parents to live each day to the fullest because tomorrow is not promised for anyone.
The Jimmy Davis Park march and rally was a great success. We all remember the late Jimmy Davis and the help he gave to everyone, regardless of color. I will always remember the last time I saw him alive. His words and tears stirred my soul.
The city’s Downtown Get Down concerts have been absolutely great, and also promote unity 100 percent.
I’m so proud of our city and county and just can’t stop promoting it. I think I may need a new promoter’s hat very soon, but I will hold on to the old hat a little bit longer since this old hat is still working. It has recruited three families to move to Putnam County, including a family that came to visit me when moved here from California.
I think the article in the paper last week on how our small-town police handle big-city problems was beyond great and so true. I brag about them each and every day. I also want to take a moment and brag about our newspaper, The Eatonton Messenger. Of course, I talk to people each and every day to get a subscription to keep up with the news of the day. And the honors the newspaper recently received were well deserved.
Don’t forget the Mothers Against Crime Gospel Event, starting at 6 p.m. on July 8th, 2023, at Putnam County Middle School. Come out and help us celebrate with an old-fashioned, foot-stompin' get-together!
Tickets are just $10 and the same price at the door. See you there! Thought for today: Hope is the expectation of good things to come.
God bless, Georgia Benjamin-Smith
