Dear Friends of Habitat for Humanity,
At Habitat for Humanity of Putnam County, we’ve always believed in the power of community: neighbors joining forces, volunteers raising walls and hopes, and donors like you building a future where everyone has a decent place to live.
But right now, we’re facing a season of challenge.
The current economy and pauses on federal funding are having a very real and immediate impact on our work.
A $ 1.6 million Community HOME Investment Program (CHIP) grant through the Department of Community Affairs that we applied for in January — funding that would have supported six new homes for hardworking families in our community — is currently on hold.
Additionally, a Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding stream that would have allowed us to pursue a special grant to hire a full-time ReStore Manager is also paused. These delays don’t just affect our plans; they directly impact local families who are counting on the stability of a safe, affordable home.
In the midst of uncertainty, we are reminded of the words of President Jimmy Carter: “When the waters rise, so do our better angels.”
We know our better angels are among us, people who continue to show up, lift others, and believe in the mission of Habitat for Humanity. That’s why we’re reaching out. If you are able — or feel called — we invite you to make a gift. Your support means more now than ever.
Giving is simple and can be done in many ways, including online via credit/debit cards at putnamcountyhabitat.charityproud.org/donate, by mailing a check to Habitat for Humanity of Putnam, P.O. Box 4056, Eatonton, GA 31024, through workplace giving platforms like Benevity, by donor-advised funds, or even gifts of stock. And for those who recently wrapped up tax season, you may have a renewed opportunity to support the causes closest to your heart.
Regardless of the outcomes of these federal funding opportunities, today or in the future, rest assured that 100 percent of your donation stays local and goes directly toward building housing for families right here in Putnam County. Every dollar builds strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.
We at Habitat for Humanity of Putnam are profoundly grateful for your continued belief in this mission and in us. No matter what tomorrow brings, we will keep building, because every family deserves the foundation of a home and the hope that comes with it.
With hope and gratitude, Murali Thirumal, Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity of Putnam County
