Dear Editor,
This past week was absolutely great. Plenty of activities, food, et cetera. Our little town is really showing its true colors. There are activities galore and you don’t want to miss any of them.
The events started with the Ice Cream Social at the Old School History Museum. Fun games, plenty of refreshments, and storytelling. It was great fun and the number of people attending was great, too. I really enjoyed telling Uncle Remus stories to everyone in our old classroom, punctuated with a tinge of Putnam County history.
The rest of my day and most of the night was a celebration of our youngest son’s birthday with all the siblings and family. Sunday, or part of it at least, was spent with everyone for lunch at Bistro’s. What a meal! And the service with Angela was great.
Ebenezer Baptist Church celebrated Women’s Day with Dr. Undrea R. Jones-Hilliard, a native of Putnam County as a speaker. Absolutely great to see people returning home.
Don’t forget, Mothers Against Crime will hold another yard sale, a sidewalk sale. Remember, everything is free on Wednesday, August 23rd, from 10 a.m. until one o’clock. And if you really want to see how Eatonton Putnam County is growing, just look around and observe, especially on Thursday nights in downtown Eatonton.
And everyone remember to wave and say thank you to our law enforcement people, firefighters, and city and county workers. I have a perfect idea. Take a moment and speak to everyone, because that’s unity. And remember, the light is definitely getting brighter at the end of the tunnel!
Thought for today: Love has hands to help others; it has feet to hasten to the poor and needy; it has eyes to see misery and want; it has ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of others. This is what love looks like.
God bless, Georgia Benjamin Smith
