Letter to the Editor: Judging Trump on ‘content of character’

Dear Editor,

Why did he lie to the American people about Covid? Several thousand lives could have been saved if [Donald Trump] had just told the truth and listened to the scientists.

Why does he cuddle up to dictators like Orban and Putin and the leader of North Korea? Is it because he so admires their dictatorship positions and wishes he could be a dictator here in America?

Why do 40 out of 48 of his previous hand-selected cabinet members (83%)say he is “not fit for office” and will not support him?

Why did he give massive tax cuts to the rich, which only added to our deficit, did not trickle down to the middle class, but only padded their pockets? The gap in income inequality is the largest since the Great Depression.

Why, when he said he was going to “go big” on infrastructure, did it take Biden/Harris to rebuild our roads and bridges, upgrade our internet, jump-start clean energy, and get our economy back after Trump’s disastrous handling of Covid and blistering inflation that he left to Biden/Harris?

Our country is the number-one country in the world, recovering from massive inflation. Yes, prices and inflation are high; this is a worldwide problem now because of COVID-19, the Ukrainian War, and supply problems caused by both. Why did Biden/Harris and not Trump pass the “Chips and Science Act,” bringing more than $ than$300 billion in manufacturing jobs back to America?

Who expanded healthcare for veterans[suffering from] toxic exposure? Not Trump. Who signed the “Paris Climate Accord,” trying to save our planet from global warming? Not Trump.

But who took away a woman’s right to make her own decision about her own body and appointed judges to the Supreme Court who overturned Roe vs. Wade?

And finally, doesn’t morality matter at all to our voters? Things like telling the truth, not calling people names, being vindictive, being selfish, and not making decisions for personal gain [instead of] for our country?

Who appeared with his deputy campaign manager at one of America’s most sacred places, Arlington National Cemetery? Who called Americans who died in war “suckers and losers?”

America deserves a better president—a president our children can be proud of, a president who does not bring chaos to everything he does, a president who doesn’t want to be a dictator“except on Day One,” a president who is not only out for himself.

We deserve a president with the moral compass to be president of the mighty USA.
