Dear Editor,
I spent “One Night in Memphis” last Thursday night at The Plaza and, boy, was I blown away by the performance.
I watched come alive on stage the music of Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, and the great Elvis Presley. Playing to a crowd of about 500, a Plaza full house, you could almost believe they were the real stars, both in their singing and instrumental abilities, as well as physical resemblance – especially “Elvis.”
The piano playing of “Jerry Lee” and “Elvis” was something to write home about. I did not know that hands and fingers and feet could move so fast and so hard on a keyboard that you didn’t need a sound system to hear the notes.
As one noted attendee remarked as we were leaving, “I think we are going to need a new piano after this.”
Kudos to The Plaza Arts Center for truly giving us an unforgettable “Night in Memphis.”
