Dear Editor,
It certainly was encouraging to read about the credentials of the new teachers who have been brought into our school system.
The knowledge, training, and experience they bring is very good and we should be very pleased that the Board of Education has hired teachers with credentials that say these men and women have prepared for the jobs they have taken.
Teaching at all grade levels is of more importance than ever, but it is far more challenging today than it has ever been.
Or so it seems by media reports and by state tests and national statistics. Let’s be grateful that there are still dedicated people who spend time and money to enter the field of education and who will, we hope, spend their careers serving (yes, it is a service!) our youth.
Students deserve hard-working teachers, and the public deserves to believe that students are getting the most qualified teachers our country can draw. The Messenger does a good thing introducing these new teachers each school year.
