Letters to the Editor: Leadership on JDP remains AWOL

Dear Editor,

It saddens me to write to the citizens of this community that the issue with Jimmy Davis Park has still not been resolved.

Why can’t a fence be placed around the basketball court? Why can’t the children have swings to play on?

Why can’t the park be kept up? Yes, there are trash cans, but they are being emptied only after running over with trash. What are the “concerned” members of the Board of Commissioners doing about this? How long will much-needed repairs take? And I am referring to the park at this time, not the building.

I stopped by the park last week. It was around 5 p.m.

There were about 15 to 20 people playing soccer and children were running throughout the park playing.

Young men were playing basketball and listening to music. Others were just walking around the track. The park was being used by many, even in the state that it is in.

Somebody out there, please help me get this message across to the people that can make a change. I am beginning to lose faith in our elected officials. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. If we are to represent the body of Christ, how do we answer the question, “Am I my brother’s keeper?”

Thank you, Ms. Patricia Jones H, Eatonton
