No difference for Putin

Dear editor:

Your columnist Dick Yarborough, writing in the March 31 Messenger, wonders what the international situation today would be if the child Putin had been inspired to share with the world his own personal artwork promoting peace. I can tell him. It wouldn’t have made a blind bit of difference.

In fact, it is entirely possible that young Putin did just that! When he was growing up in the 1950s and 1960s the Soviet Union was plastered over with banners and propagandistic artwork done by children and aimed at promoting what the Soviet state was pleased to call “peace and solidarity” amongst world youth. A good little Soviet citizen like comrade Putin would not have wanted to have missed out on being in the thick of this effort.
