Dear Editor,
In last week’s paper Tommy Jefferson claimed that former Chairman Steve Hersey tried to “sell water to another third party at a price BELOW OUR COST”.
Apparently that is a reason you might want to vote for Bill Sharp. Well, I was involved in that proposal to bring treated water to the third District and I can tell you Mr. Jefferson’s statement is an absolute misrepresentation. As I recall he misunderstood the issue then and now.
If successful the per gallon cost of water would have been lowered throughout the EPWSA system.
The idea was for the county to provide water at a discounted rate, albeit at twice the actual cost, temporarily to a water company. In return the water company would bear the entire cost of installing the necessary infrastructure.
Once the agreement was completed the Third District business area would have had access to quality water and EPWSA would pay less per gallon for it’s water from the Sinclair Water facility.
