Lingle leads Gatewood shooters to victory

Gatewood’s Carson Lingle shot a rare, perfect 150 to lead the Gators’ varsity shotgun team to victory Saturday over five visiting school teams at Old Hudson Plantation.

Each of 73 total shooters from the six schools faced 50 targets on the skeet range and 100 sporting clays at various stations on the sprawling 1,600-acre facility alongside Hwy. 16, east of Eatonton.

Placing second and third to give Gatewood the overall team win were Carson Courchaine and Will Rainey, who scored 145 and 144, respectively, to reach a dominating 439 out of 450 final tally. Following Gatewood on the scoreboard were Lake Oconee Academy (391), Stratford (386), Loganville (368), Brentwood (364), and John Hancock (264).

In the skeet portion of the event, in addition to Lingle, Lawrey Benner, Blake Daniel, and Ford Rocker each shot a perfect 50-of-50 targets, while JP Weems shot his first-ever 25 straight in skeet.

The team will be back in action at Forest City Gun Club in Savannah this weekend.
