Putnam football to host golf tournament

Putnam County football will host its sixth-annual golf tournament next month.

The team’s booster club is organizing the tournament, scheduled for June 14, at the Harbor Club course in Greensboro.

Putnam County head football coach Joel Harvin said last year’s turnout was “good,” but he wants to see more people come and play on June 14.

“We’re excited about it, man. It was a good turnout last year. We doubled our efforts from the previous year,” Harvin said. “We’re going to try and see if we can double what we did last year, too, which is going to be hard.”

The tournament will feature a two-person scramble with a fee of $300 per team. The event will begin at 12:30 p.m. and lunch will be provided. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third-place teams.

Sponsorship opportunities are also available, with a family sponsorship costing $100 and a hole sponsorship costing $200.

Additionally, a team sponsorship costs $500 and permits one team to play, along with a hole sponsor. A business sponsorship is priced at $1,000, which covers two teams, a hole sponsor, and two premium tickets for the 2025 football season. The corporate sponsorship is $2,500 and includes two teams, four premium season tickets, one game sponsorship, and a jumbotron advertisement for the entire 2025 season at Al Reaves Field.

Harvin said he’s confident the entire Eatonton and Putnam County community will come out to support the golf tournament.

“We’re going to try to get out there and hit up every business in this county,” the head coach said. “We tried to do it last year, but there are so many businesses in the county that we weren’t able to get to everybody. We’re excited about it and hope to get as many people to contribute as possible, because that helps feed our kids and provides us with the necessities to get through a full season. So, we’re excited about it.”

The money raised will be used to meet team needs, including equipment and pre-and post-game meals.

“It’s a big fundraiser for us because it basically gets us through an entire season with a rising cost of just about everything,” Harvin said. “Feeding these kids has almost tripled in the past two years. So, we’d like to try to get as much food to these guys as possible for pre-game meals, post-game meals, or maybe one meal throughout the week.

“And then any other necessary equipment that we may need for the season will also contribute to that. We like our kids to have the best things. We want to ensure that every penny we raise goes directly back into the program, allowing our kids to succeed.”

Harvin also expressed gratitude to each sponsor and team booster in advance for their continued support of the program through its sixth-annual golf tournament.

“I’m excited to see everyone out there,” he stated. “It’s going to be a fantastic event for the community.”
