The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America recently announced that Michael Benton, superintendent at Uncle Remus Golf Course in Eatonton, has reached Class A membership status by meeting or exceeding demanding GCSAA standards.
“This was a real honor for me, our course, and everyone who works here,” Benton said. He added that only a few Lake Country-area golf courses have GCSAA-certified Class A superintendents.
Benton has been the URGC superintendent since June 2021, and he needed at least three years’ experience as a golf course superintendent to meet the GCSAA Class A requirements.
Other Class A membership requirements include currently being employed as a golf course superintendent, meeting specific requirements regarding formal education with a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education, and demonstrating environmental stewardship through proof of a valid pesticide application license or having passed the GCSAA Integrated Pest Management examination.
Since 1926, GCSAA has been the top professional association for the men and women who manage golf courses in the United States and worldwide.
From its headquarters in Lawrence, Kansas, GCSAA provides education, information, and representation to more than 21,000 members in more than 72 countries.
