‘Battle-tested’ Putnam girls remain undefeated

At the midpoint of the 2025-26 regular season, the Putnam County girls basketball team remains undefeated. The Lady War Eagles are 11-0 overall and ranked No. 1 in Class A Division I by SandysSpiel.com entering the holiday break.

Putnam boys begin to gain ground

After a 3-3 start to the 2025-26 season, the Putnam County boys basketball team is on the rise. Heading into the holiday break, the War Eagles (7-3) have won four consecutive games since Dec. 9.“We’ve been playing well; we’ve been finding ourselves,” Putnam head coach Patrick Marshall said.

Putnam boys, girls sweep Morgan

The Putnam County basketball teams swept Morgan County Saturday, Dec. 13, in Madison.The Lady War Eagles started the night with a captivating 51-48 victory over the Lady Dogs, improving to 10-0.Putnam played a solid first half, leading 30-16 at the end of it.

Former Putnam football star declares for NFL draft

South Carolina safety Jalon Kilgore has decided to forgo his senior season and has declared for the NFL Draft. The former Putnam County standout announced his decision Dec. 11 via his X (formerly Twitter) account.

Putnam's Greene reaches career milestone

Putnam County’s Jmari Greene recently surpassed a significant milestone in his high school basketball career. The senior War Eagle scored his 1,000th point Dec. 9 in a 76-49 home win over Jasper County.Greene entered the game against the Hurricanes just seven points shy of reaching quadruple digits.

Gatewood basketball struggles continue

Gatewood celebrates 2025 softball season

The Gatewood softball team wrapped up its 2025 season with a banquet at the school on Dec. 8, celebrating a year of hard work and grit that delivered a 14-10 overall record.The Lady Gators made it to the Class 2A postseason, finishing their season in the Elite Eight in Columbus.

Gators awards banquet wraps up football season

The Gatewood Gators’ football season officially came to a close last Wednesday evening with the annual postseason banquet at the Eatonton-based school. The event offered a mix of pride and perspective, as head coach Jeff Ratliff reflected on his team’s 2025 campaign and handed out year-end awards.
